Discover My Story

About Me

  • Masters Degree in Flute Performance
  • Double Bachelors Degree in Flute Performance and Music Education
  • I have performed at Carnegie Hall two times; once on flute and once on piccolo
  • I have been teaching private flute and piccolo lessons for over 20 years
  • My private students successes include: earning 1st chair in their school band, earning 1st chair in their district honor band, making it into the top ensemble in high school as a freshman, receiving straight 1's (gold medals) at solo & ensemble and becoming a flute performance major at college to name a few!

In addition to my incredible professors in high school and at my colleges, I have also studied with some of the best flutists in the world including Jeanne Baxtresser (retired principal flutist of the New York Philharmonic), Linda Chesis (breathing specialist and world-renowned flutist), Keith Underwood (flute professor at Mannes Conservatory), Ransom Wilson (flute professor at Yale University), Tadeo Coehlo (flute professor at University of Iowa and widely-known performer), the late Judith Lapple (flute professor at George Mason University and former principal flutist with the Air Force Band) and Dixie Stuart-Johnson, singer (an original Broadway cast member in Phantom of the Opera) among many others.

In studying with these incredibly accomplished performers, I have a unique perspective and extensive knowledge of flute techniques, breathing techniques, productive practice habits and the personal experience of struggling to achieve the highest level of expectations and goals. These experiences are what I use to help my students achieve THEIR highest level of success, whether that is to major in music in college, to raise their chair placement in band or to simply improve their skills and enjoyment of playing the flute from beginners to adults.

Honors/Awards

I made into the all-county and all-state bands while attending my private performing arts based high school in Weston, Massachusetts.

I received the "Woodwind Award" at graduation. I then went on to be the principal flutist and piccoloist at my college Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I also auditioned for The National Festival Wind Ensemble and The National Festival Orchestra and was selected to play my flute in the Wind Ensemble and my piccolo in the Orchestra to perform on two concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

In my first year of teaching at Mason City Schools in Mason, Ohio I received the "Teacher Of The Year" award and in my 8th year at my current job in the Cherry Creek School District I received the "Teaching Award Of Excellence."

Professional Performance Career

I play professionally at many Weddings all around the Denver area as well Bar Mitzah's and private parties. I have been asked to perform on my flute and piccolo several times with the professional choir Kantorei in Denver, and I perform with high school choirs all throughout Cherry Creek. I also have performed at an art gallery opening as well as a hotel opening. I frequently gig at church services for Christmas, Easter and more.

Most recently, I was asked to play my piccolo with the prestigious Cherry Creek High School Men's Choir Troubadors at the 2017 CMEA (Colorado Music Educators Association) concert, directed by Sarah Harrison, one of the choir directors at Cherry Creek High School and assistant conductor of Kantorei Choir. In addition to this performance, I have also performed with the Cherry Creek Troubadors and Select Mixed Choir at several performances around the Denver area.

Professional Educational Career

I have been an elementary music teacher in the Cherry Creek School District since 2005 and rated "highly effective" every year. This experience has taught me the art of positive rewards, successful communication between teachers and parents, meeting expectations & deadlines, and behavior management. I truly feel that my "calling" is to work with children of all ages. I have a special way to make connections first and seek to understand the needs of each individual student so that I can be the best teacher that fits their
particular needs.

As a result, I bring the unique experience of being a high level flutist coupled with being a public school elementary teacher. I feel my strength lies in understanding the needs of students of all ages and ability levels by using a variety of educational tools and teaching styles .

Personal

I grew up in the east coast but I've lived in Colorado now for 18 years. When I am not making or teaching music, my hobbies include scrapbooking, walking, photography, trivia, board games and party planning! I love to visit my parents in beautiful Sun City West, AZ and golf with my dad. I am also a proud auntie to my sisters 3 boys.
